The YouTube app for Android has been updated and is allowing some users to use chapters in videos.
Mobile applications are not always fully updated after intense work by developers, such as the compression change in videos announced in recent weeks. In many cases what happens is that tests are done to see if a function is useful or not and if it will be used.
This is what is currently happening with two experiments on YouTube for Android.
Testing the chapters in the app
Developers are testing the video chapters , something that was announced last year, on mobile devices. The idea is that users can jump directly to a specific section of the video, see a specific part again, etc.
The chapters appear at the bottom of the video player and will use the timestamps that the creator of the video can put in its description.
At the moment this function is only available in a few videos until the company confirms if it makes it massive. It does not depend on the APK of the application, but on an activation by Google on its servers, so it does not seem that we can do anything to force it if it does not appear in any of our accounts.
Comments on YouTube for Android regain prominence
The other experiment is to move the site comments in the app. According to Google itself on the YouTube experiment page, they want "to make it easier for people who watch videos to find comments in the YouTube application without having to scroll through the videos." The new section will display up to 3 comments , with an option to view all comments while we continue to watch the video.
Let's hope that both functions reach the stable version of YouTube and do it in a massive way since they seem quite useful.
