How to prevent apps from closing in the background

If you want some of the apps on Android to be able to continue running in the background, prevent them from closing with this simple setting.

The fact that Android applications work in the background is something that is seen as negative. Since this involves a waste of energy in the phone , in addition to also consuming mobile data. But there are applications that we need to work in the background, due to synchronization issues. Although there are times that we have configured that they do not work.

Also, some layers of customization, like Samsung's OneUI, sleep or stop apps in the background . This can cause some working problems with some of these apps on Android. Therefore, we can choose which apps can work in the background and thus allow them to continue issuing notifications on the phone as normal.

Set which apps work in the background

To prevent Android from stopping the operation of some applications in the background, we can configure which ones we do want to have this possibility. Messaging applications, such as WhatsApp or Telegram, or others such as Gmail benefit from this, since they can thus issue notifications on the phone . If your operation is limited in the background, there may be no notifications or they may be late.

  • Open the phone settings.
  • Enter Applications.
  • Look for the Battery optimization section (the name may vary).
  • Tap See all apps.
  • Search for the app you want (WhatsApp, for example).
  • Enter the app.
  • Click Don't Allow.

In this section you will see that we always have two options in each of the applications: Allow and Do not Allow . By default, the Allow option is usually checked in each of them. This means that our Android phone has permission to sleep or stop the application when it is running in the background. This action has consequences on the operation of some applications, such as messaging applications, because notifications may not arrive or do so late.

We can adjust this option with each application individually, so if there are applications that you want to be able to run in the background, such as messaging or Gmail, then you must put Do not allow in all of them. In this way we prevent our Android phone from limiting its activity in the background.
